Nigeria’s Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, has firmly denied claims that his ministry awarded ₦13 billion worth of contracts without following proper procedures.
The denial came on Monday after an online publication alleged that between February and June 2024, Edun and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Lydia Shehu Jafiya, approved several projects unlawfully.
According to the Ministry’s statement, all contracts during this period, including the Presidential Initiatives on Compressed Natural Gas (Pi CNG), were handled in line with the Public Procurement Act and other governing laws.
The Ministry described the allegations as baseless and aimed at damaging the reputations of both Edun and Jafiya.
The Ministry urged Nigerians to ignore the report, assuring that its operations are transparent and accountable.
It also stressed that it remains committed to managing the nation’s economy and carrying out President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms.
The Ministry further warned that legal action could be taken against individuals or groups spreading false claims intended to mislead the public or damage its image.
