The Federal Government has disclosed that at least 190 flights were cancelled across Nigeria within the past two months.
Chris Najomo, the acting director-general of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), made this announcement while expressing concerns over the rising number of flight cancellations in the country.
During his address at the Airlines-NCAA engagement event on Friday, Najomo shared that in September 2024, out of 5,291 flights operated, 2,434 were delayed, and 79 were cancelled. In October 2024, a total of 5,513 flights were operated, with 2,791 delayed and 111 cancelled.
Najomo emphasized that while delays and cancellations are sometimes unavoidable, poor management of these disruptions is unacceptable.
He reminded all operators of the NCAA Regulations on Passenger Rights during disruptions, as outlined in the Nigeria Civil Aviation (Consumer Protection) Regulations, 2023, stating that these regulations are mandatory, not optional.
