The Federal Government has directed Ibom Air to drop all criminal charges against Ms Comfort Emmanson, the passenger accused of disruptive behaviour on one of the airline’s flights.
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, announced the decision in a statement on Wednesday, saying the move followed consultations with aviation stakeholders and a review of the incident.
According to Keyamo, Ibom Air agreed to withdraw its formal complaint after the passenger expressed remorse during questioning in police custody, which was conducted in the presence of her legal representative.
Following the withdrawal, the Airport Command’s police and prosecution team have been instructed to work towards securing Ms Emmanson’s release from Kirikiri Prison within the week.
The Minister also disclosed that the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) have resolved to lift the lifetime flight ban earlier imposed on her, adding that details of the resolution would be made public soon.
Keyamo stressed that the government’s decision was taken on compassionate grounds, while reiterating that aviation safety and security remain non-negotiable priorities.
