FG Offers N5m Reward as Security Tightens Around Ilesa Prison After Jailbreak

Seven inmates escaped from the Medium Custodial Centre in Ilesa, Osun State, on Tuesday, prompting a swift and heavy response from the Federal Government and various security agencies.

In a bid to recapture the fugitives, the government has announced a reward of five million naira for any person who can provide information that will lead to their arrest.

The jailbreak has drawn serious attention, and several security forces have now surrounded the correctional facility.

The Nigerian Army, Department of State Services (DSS), Police, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have all been deployed to the scene in the Ayeso area of Ilesa.

Armed officers, many in masks, were seen around the prison on Wednesday, blocking entry to journalists and civilians.

The tightened security is part of efforts to prevent further breaches and assist in the search operation.

Officials from the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) confirmed that the Osun State Commandant has relocated to Ilesa to coordinate the ongoing efforts on the ground.

The presence of multiple agencies working together is intended to strengthen the operation and track down the escapees quickly.

The NCoS, through its spokesperson, also urged members of the public to assist by reporting any sightings or information related to the whereabouts of the escaped inmates.

People with useful information are encouraged to reach out to the nearest security agency or contact the service through official channels.

The authorities have assured that all information received will be handled with confidentiality.
