FG Fixes Date For Full Paperless Civil Service

The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to transitioning Nigeria’s Civil Service to a fully paperless system by December 31, 2025.

Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, made this known during a visit to the headquarters of Galaxy Backbone Limited (GBB) in Abuja. She disclosed that over 34,000 civil servants have already been onboarded onto the Galaxy Backbone-powered “War Room” platform, which supports the deployment of official government email (GovMail) for efficient service delivery.

Walson-Jack commended Galaxy Backbone for its expansive infrastructure, including fibre connectivity across 28 states, which she said positions the agency as a key player in the government’s digital transformation drive.

During the tour, she inspected several of GBB’s digital facilities such as the National Shared Services Centre, the Network Operations Centre (NOC), Security Operations Centre (SOC), and a Uptime Institute Certified Tier III Data Centre—all aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s digital public sector infrastructure.

Accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Mr. Adeladan Rafiu, and other top officials, the HCSF said the visit was designed to deepen collaboration between her office and GBB.

“This visit has opened my eyes to the enormous potential and capacity Galaxy Backbone brings to Nigeria’s digital journey,” she said. “I now see GBB not just as an ICT agency, but as a strategic partner in building a modern, agile, and paperless Civil Service.”

She also identified critical areas for continued partnership, including the full implementation of the 1Government Cloud to host operations of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), the adoption of an Enterprise Content Management System (ECMS) for workflow automation, and synergy between GBB’s Cloud Academy and the Civil Service Academy for training and capacity building.

In his remarks, the Managing Director and CEO of Galaxy Backbone, Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju, expressed appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to supporting the government’s digital vision.
