FG confirms free tuition in technical colleges, warns against illegal charges

The Federal Government has reiterated that tuition and approved fees in all Federal Technical Colleges (FTCs) remain free, warning principals and administrators against imposing unauthorised charges on students.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, gave the clarification in a statement issued on Wednesday and released via the ministry’s official X handle on Thursday.

He noted that the government fully funds all FTCs nationwide to guarantee equal access to technical education for Nigerian children, stressing that no school administrator is permitted to collect extra payments from parents or guardians.

“Circulars have been dispatched to all schools to reinforce this directive. Parents are urged to report illegal demands directly to the Ministry,” the statement read.

According to the ministry, complaints can be lodged through the hotlines 0803 657 6733 and 0803 637 3796, or via email at [email protected].
Alausa maintained that the directive underscores government’s commitment to making technical and vocational education more accessible and affordable for Nigerian families.
