FG begins payment of N44,000 minimum wage arrears to ex-corps members

The Federal Government has commenced the disbursement of N44,000 as minimum wage arrears to former members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), in fulfilment of its earlier promise following the upward review of corps members’ monthly allowance.

The development comes after the government increased the monthly stipend for serving corps members from N33,000 to N77,000, in line with the recently approved minimum wage structure.

However, the payment of the N44,000 arrears is specifically targeted at corps members who had completed their national service before the implementation of the new allowance.

Former corps members, who are beneficiaries of the payment, have taken to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to confirm receipt of the funds and express appreciation to the government.

An excited user, @Kingpin_black1, tweeted, “Thank you NYSC. Thank you President Tinubu. Nigeria will be great again.”

Another user, @pharmacist_shezzy, posted: “44k don land. NYSC no carry last. God bless Nigeria.”

Also reacting, @ifeoluwa_X wrote: “Just got my alert. I almost deleted my NYSC account. Thank you FG.”

The payment has triggered a wave of positive reactions on social media, with many describing it as a reassuring gesture of the government’s commitment to its promises and an indicator of renewed accountability in public service.
