The Federal Government of Nigeria has finalized and submitted the required documents to Finland to facilitate the extradition of Simon Ekpa, a leading Biafra agitator accused of terrorism-related activities.
According to Politics Nigeria, Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, disclosed this during an interview on Channels Television, expressing optimism about the ongoing legal process.
“Well, I’m sure he’s cooling off somewhere. Legal action will be taken accordingly. I don’t want to say too much, but I’m glad he’s been arrested,” General Musa stated, noting his confidence in Finland’s cooperation following the submission of the necessary materials.
Ekpa was apprehended by Finnish authorities in November 2024 alongside four others. He faces charges including incitement to violence, financing terrorism, and promoting separatist propaganda.
A Finnish court in Lahti ordered his remand on probable grounds of public incitement to commit acts of terrorism in Nigeria.
Known for using social media to advocate for the violent secession of southeastern Nigeria, Ekpa has been a central figure in the Biafra movement, drawing widespread criticism and raising concerns about national security and Nigeria’s unity.
The Federal Government’s latest move marks a significant step in holding Ekpa accountable for his actions, as Nigeria seeks to address separatist threats and maintain peace across the nation.
