Fresh revelations have emerged alleging that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is behind a massive financial inducement scheme designed to lure opposition governors and lawmakers into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to exclusive sources cited by Sahara Reporters, the alleged defection packages — reportedly coordinated directly from the Presidency and overseen by senior government officials close to President Tinubu — offer mouthwatering sums to political defectors.
The sources claimed that each state governor crossing over to the APC receives ₦250 billion, disbursed in two stages — ₦100 billion as an upfront “grant” once commitment is shown, and another ₦150 billion after the formal defection ceremony.
In addition, senators who join the APC are allegedly given ₦1 billion, while House of Representatives members reportedly receive ₦500 million each as part of the deal.
The exposé follows a recent string of high-profile defections by governors, including Peter Mbah of Enugu State, Douye Diri of Bayelsa State, and Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State — all of whom have dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the APC.
Governor Mbah, during his defection announcement in October, claimed that his decision was guided by a desire to better serve the people of Enugu and align with the APC’s “vision for national development.”
“Leadership demands difficult, even painful decisions, in the service of higher principles and goals. After deep reflection, we have made a decision to join the All Progressives Congress,” Mbah had said at the time.
Similarly, Governor Douye Diri recently announced his defection in Yenagoa amid a carnival-like celebration attended by top APC figures, including Adams Oshiomhole, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
Diri told supporters that his move was “in the best interest of Bayelsa State,” emphasizing that “politics should be about development, not destruction.”
With his defection, the Bayelsa governor became the 25th governor under the APC and the fourth PDP governor to defect this year, joining Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), Peter Mbah (Enugu), and Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta).
The Presidency has yet to respond to the explosive allegations, which have sparked widespread public debate over political integrity, state resources, and Nigeria’s governance ethics.
As of press time, the
APC leadership and the Office of the President have not issued any official statements regarding the claims.
