The Ogun State Community, Social Orientation, and Safety Corps (So-Safe Corps) have detained 54-year-old Adelani Oriyomi for allegedly attempting to exhume a human skull at a burial site in Kere, Obada-Oko, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
According to Pu, this was revealed in a press statement issued on Tuesday by the Corps’ Commander, Soji Ganzallo, through the Director of Information and Public Relations, Assistant Commander Moruf Yusuf.
Ganzallo reported that at around 2:35 a.m. on January 21, 2025, officers on regular patrol noticed suspicious behavior near a piece of land behind a church. Oriyomi was spotted trying to hide and was subsequently apprehended.
During questioning, Oriyomi confessed he was attempting to retrieve another skull for a ritual practice known as ‘Osole.’ He further admitted to being a repeat offender, having previously sold nearly ten skulls. Oriyomi also revealed that he had been arrested for similar offenses in Ado-Odo, where he served two years in prison, and in Obada-Oko, where he was sentenced to an additional six years and nine months at the Oba Correctional Centre.
The So-Safe Corps Commander confirmed that Oriyomi, along with the recovered human skull, has been transferred to the Nigeria Police Force at the Obada Divisional Headquarters for further investigation and possible legal action.
Ganzallo also urged community leaders to ensure thorough screening of tenants and visitors, warning that this vigilance could contribute up to 70% of home security, with the remaining 30% depending on awareness of potential external threats.
