El-Rufai Rules Out 2027 Ambition

Former Kaduna State governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has ruled out contesting for any political office in the 2027 general elections, insisting that his renewed participation in politics is not driven by personal ambition but by the need to support credible leadership in the country.

El-Rufai made the declaration on Wednesday in Kaduna while addressing a group of youths who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by Aliyu Bello.

The former governor took a swipe at the current administration, saying Nigerians already understand its failures.
“This is a government that does nothing but lie every day. I am not contesting for anything; I don’t want to go to the Senate. That is why I am calling on you: let us join hands and ensure we remove the oppressors,” he said.

El-Rufai explained that although he had planned to retire from partisan politics after leaving office, prevailing national realities forced him to return. According to him, his focus now is on mentoring young people, women, and reform-minded citizens to actively participate in governance and leadership.

He further urged eligible Nigerians to take part in the democratic process by registering to vote, stressing that electoral participation remains the most effective tool for driving political change.
