The Ekiti State Amotekun Corps on Thursday announced the apprehension of several suspected Fulani herdsmen believed to be cattle rustlers migrating from Kwara State to Ekiti.
In a press statement issued by the command’s Director of Information, Abiodun Adeleye, in Ado Ekiti, it was revealed that the herdsmen were arrested following an intelligence report from residents of the Isan community in the Oye Local Government Area of the state.
According to Adeleye, the suspects were sighted with their cattle around Gede Farm settlement in Isan-Ekiti, which caused panic in the agrarian community.
The statement indicated that this development led to the reinforcement of additional Amotekun operatives from their outpost to relocate to Oye, where their combined efforts resulted in the successful arrest of the bandits.
“Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed that they fled from Kwara State to Ekiti State as a result of the ongoing onslaught against banditry in the state. They were involved in cattle rustling, especially from some Kwara residents who rear their cattle in the town. In the course of interrogation, sixteen suspects were apprehended.
“Also recovered at the scene of the incidents were some cash, seven Tecno phones, a variety of charms, three VGN ID cards, including herds of cattle.
“They have since been handed over to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Ekiti State Police Command, Ado-Ekiti, for further investigation and prosecution.”
