EFCC Officer Killed, Another Injured by Suspected Yahoo Boys in Anambra

A tragic incident unfolded in Onitsha, Anambra State, on Friday morning when suspected internet fraudsters, popularly referred to as “Yahoo boys,” killed an officer of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and left another critically injured.

The operatives, who were on assignment from the EFCC’s zonal headquarters in Enugu, were conducting an operation to apprehend the suspects when the attack occurred.

The slain officer, an assistant superintendent, had recently completed his promotional examination, marking a significant milestone in his career.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed that investigations were ongoing.

“Investigations into this unfortunate incident are underway. The suspect has been apprehended, and the firearm has been recovered. Further details will be provided,” Ikenga stated.

This shocking development has sent ripples across Anambra and the nation at large, drawing attention to the growing boldness of suspected cybercriminals in the region.
