EFCC officer Allegedly absconds with $30,000, other seized items

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is grappling with another case of internal misconduct as a staff member from its Kaduna Zonal Office has allegedly fled with over $30,000 and other confiscated items.

According to Afripost, this incident comes shortly after the detention of 10 EFCC officers in Lagos over missing operational assets, including gold bars valued at more than ₦1 billion, $180,000, and £140,000.

The staff member, identified as Polycarp, reportedly vanished after failing to account for $30,000 in exhibits. Sources revealed that the zonal director, Benedict Ubi, had ordered an audit of the exhibit room following the Lagos scandal.

It was learned that Polycarp requested casual leave shortly after the audit commenced but has since become unreachable, with his phone lines switched off.

“This is just the initial discovery regarding foreign currency,” an insider disclosed, hinting that a full audit might expose more irregularities.

The EFCC has launched a manhunt for the missing officer and is working to recover the stolen assets. Further investigations into the incident are underway.
