EFCC dismisses 27 officers over fraud, misconduct

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) announced the dismissal of 27 of its officers on Monday, January 6, citing various offenses related to fraud and misconduct.

According to Politics Nigeria, in a statement issued by the commission’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, it was confirmed that these dismissals occurred in 2024.

According to Oyewale, the decision was made based on the recommendations of the EFCC’s Staff Disciplinary Committee, which were subsequently endorsed by the commission’s Chairman, Ola Olukoyede.

The spokesperson reiterated the EFCC’s commitment to maintaining a strict zero-tolerance stance on corruption, emphasizing that no officer is exempt from accountability.

Oyewale further stated, “All allegations against any staff member will be thoroughly investigated, including an ongoing inquiry into a claim involving $400,000 from a yet-to-be-identified staff member against a Sectional Head.” He assured that the commission’s core values would always be respected.

Additionally, he warned the public to be wary of fraudsters posing as EFCC officials, who attempt to extort money from individuals under investigation by the agency.
