Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has appealed to the public not to hastily condemn Niger Delta figure, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, following a recent allegation of Naira abuse.
The controversy arose after a video surfaced online from Tompolo’s 54th birthday party, where a man was seen spraying ₦1,000 notes as Tompolo danced. The video sparked reactions, with many Nigerians questioning whether the EFCC would investigate the matter or ignore it.
In a TV interview, Olukoyede confirmed that Tompolo has been invited for questioning, adding that the commission has already begun forensic analysis of the video. He stressed that the agency would not jump to conclusions until the facts are established.
“We have invited Tompolo, and every Nigerian knows that no one is above the law,” Olukoyede said. “But we must not condemn him yet. It remains an allegation until proven. The video is under forensic review because, these days, videos can be manipulated.”
He urged the public to allow due process, noting that the EFCC remains committed to fair hearing and thorough investigation for all individuals, regardless of status.
