EFCC Begins Tracking Local Government Funds

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has started monitoring the allocation and use of funds in local governments across Nigeria.

The chairman of the commission, Ola Olukoyede, made this known during a courtesy visit by leaders of the National Christian Youth Professionals (NCYP) at the EFCC headquarters on Thursday.

During the meeting, the NCYP delegation, led by Isaac Abrak, urged the EFCC to pay close attention to local government funds to prevent mismanagement.

They pointed out that with financial autonomy granted to local governments, strict oversight is necessary to ensure the money serves its intended purpose.

In response, Olukoyede assured them that the EFCC is already monitoring the situation.

He noted that the commission remains committed to ensuring that funds allocated to local governments are properly managed.

He explained that the EFCC’s Fraud Risk Assessment and Control department is actively tracking payments, contracts, and other financial transactions at the grassroots level.

Olukoyede also called on the NCYP members to use their influence to encourage Nigerians to act with honesty and integrity, regardless of their religious background.

He emphasized that doing the right thing should not be based on religious beliefs but on a commitment to national progress.

The EFCC chairman reaffirmed that the commission would continue its work to prevent corruption and ensure that government funds benefit the people they are meant for.
