The Edo State Police Command has launched an investigation following the fatal shooting of a vulcaniser named Boyo, who was attacked along Warrake Road in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson, Moses Yamu, confirmed the incident on Saturday, stating that the command received the report on Friday. According to him, the assailants, who escaped on a motorcycle, are now being tracked by law enforcement officers.
“The report came in yesterday. Unfortunately, the suspects fled before our officers could intervene. The victim was rushed to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead,” Yamu said. “The Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, has ordered a thorough search for the culprits and assured that justice will be served.”
Eyewitnesses said two men on a motorcycle approached Boyo’s roadside workstation. One of them got off and, without saying a word, fired two shots at close range while the victim was resting, then quickly fled with his accomplice.
“It happened in seconds. No argument, no warning—just shots and chaos. Everyone nearby was in shock,” a trader near the scene recounted.
Community members expressed grief and fear over the incident. A local leader said residents of Warrake Road are devastated by the attack, noting that Boyo was widely regarded as hardworking and peaceful.
“It’s disturbing to witness such a brutal act in broad daylight. We urge the authorities to act swiftly and restore public confidence,” he added.
