Edo PDP Declares 3-Day Mourning for Pioneer State Chairman, Solomon Aguele

The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared three days of mourning in honour of its late pioneer chairman, Chief Solomon Aguele.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by Chris Osa Nehikhare, Publicity Secretary of the State Caretaker Committee, the mourning period will run from Thursday, August 21, 2025. During this time, all political activities and engagements of the party across the state have been suspended.

Nehikhare disclosed that a condolence register has been opened at the PDP State Secretariat, 20 Aiguobasimwin Crescent, Benin City, for party members, leaders, and members of the public to pay their respects.

He described Aguele as a committed leader whose tenure as chairman between 1999 and 2007 laid a solid foundation for the growth of the PDP in Edo State.

“The Edo PDP family remains united in honouring the legacy of our late pioneer chairman, whose leadership, wisdom, and devotion to democratic ideals will never be forgotten. His contributions were pivotal to the growth and successes of our party during its formative years,” the statement read.

The party added that Chief Aguele would be remembered for his humility, loyalty, and enduring service to both the PDP and the development of Edo State.
