Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has dismissed his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Mr. Fred Itua, and approved the appointment of veteran journalist and academic, Dr. Patrick Ebojele, as his replacement.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued Thursday night by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Musa Ikhilor.
According to the statement, the appointment of Dr. Ebojele is aimed at strengthening communication between the state government and the public, ensuring clearer dissemination of government policies and programmes.
“The Edo State Government wishes to notify the general public that His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, Executive Governor of Edo State, has approved the appointment of Dr. Ebojele Akhere Patrick as the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor,” the SSG stated.
Ikhilor described the new CPS as a “renowned journalist, public administrator, researcher and lecturer with an extensive and distinguished professional record in media practice, public affairs, and academia.”
The government added that Ebojele’s wealth of experience is expected to enhance transparency and improve government–citizen engagement.
On the removal of the former CPS, the statement noted that Mr. Itua has been directed to hand over and await further deployment.
“The now former CPS, Fred Itua, will upon handover await a new reassignment to be communicated in due course. The Government expresses appreciation to Mr. Itua for his contributions and service,” the statement added.
Dr. Ebojele’s appointment takes immediate effect.
