Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has appointed Barrister Kasimu Otono as his new Special Adviser on Oil and Gas, replacing Felix Isere, who was suspended earlier in the week over alleged unauthorised fundraising.
The appointment was announced on Friday in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ikhilor, who described Otono as a seasoned legal practitioner, real estate entrepreneur, and community mobiliser.
“Barr. Kasimu Otono, who replaces the suspended immediate-past Special Adviser, Mr. Felix Isere, is a legal practitioner, real estate entrepreneur, philanthropist and community mobiliser,” the statement noted.
Otono is also a member of the Nigerian Bar Association and the International Bar Association, and currently serves as a Senior Partner at Kay and Kay Legal, a law firm specialising in commercial, real estate, and oil and gas law.
Isere was suspended on Tuesday for allegedly raising funds in the name of the state government without proper authorisation, ahead of a proposed Oil and Gas Summit scheduled to take place on August 7 in Benin City.
Governor Okpebholo also ordered Isere to refund all monies collected from donors and advised the public to refrain from further dealings with him.
