Edo APC Calls for Arrest of Police Inspector’s Killers

The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has demanded the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the killing of Police Inspector Akor Onuh.

Onuh was shot and killed on July 18, 2024, along Airport Road in Benin City while providing security to Governor Monday Okpebholo, who was then a Senator and APC’s governorship candidate.

The APC has accused members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of being involved in the incident, which occurred during a clash between supporters of the PDP and APC.

The confrontation took place as APC supporters were welcoming the court-reinstated Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon Philip Shaibu, alongside Okpebholo and other APC leaders.

The APC’s State Chairman, Jarrett Tenebe, stated that the individuals implicated in the crime have returned to the political scene and even attended a PDP meeting recently.

He accused them of trying to portray themselves as political figures while being involved in the killing.

According to the APC, these individuals were armed and supported by the state government under Governor Obaseki’s leadership.

Tenebe also criticized the lack of progress in bringing the suspects to justice, claiming that they have been shielded from legal action.

He urged the Inspector General of Police to intervene immediately and ensure the suspects are arrested, calling on law enforcement to act without political influence.

The APC reiterated that justice for Inspector Onuh is essential, and any delay would be seen as a failure to uphold the law.
