A witness from Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS), identified as PWAAA, on Friday told the court that no weapons or violent materials were found on Nnamdi Kanu during his arrest on October 14, 2015, at the Golden Tulip Hotel near Lagos International Airport.
The court heard that no tools meant to cause public unrest were recovered from the woman arrested alongside Kanu.
Instead, the items taken from Kanu were described as his personal belongings.
The DSS witness explained under questioning by Kanu’s lawyer, Kanu Agabi SAN, that while the items themselves were harmless, they could not speak to what Kanu intended to do with them.
PWAAA explained that his main task was to arrest Kanu and collect his statement, not to examine the seized items.
He admitted that although Kanu’s mobile phone was checked, the report from that analysis was not given to the court, as it was not considered important for the case.
The witness also confirmed that after nearly ten years, many of the seized items might no longer hold any value or function.
Among the items taken from Kanu were several laptops, iPads, transmitters, modems, mobile phones, cameras, wristwatches, perfumes, bank cards, and personal documents, including Nigerian and British passports.
The list also included gadgets like drones, microphones, sound equipment, and several accessories such as shoes, belts, and extension wires.
While these were admitted as exhibits, none were described as materials tied to violent acts or terrorism.
This testimony came as part of the ongoing trial over terrorism-related charges filed by the Federal Government against Kanu, who has long been at the center of agitation for Biafra’s independence.
The court proceedings continue as both sides present their evidence and arguments.
