Drama Trails Police Murder Declaration, As Detained Akingboye’s Family, Aides Regain Freedom

The Lagos State Police Command has released seven family members and aides of the late Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate, Otunba Bamidele Akingboye (OBA), who were earlier detained as part of an ongoing investigation into his death.

The release came moments after Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olorundare Jimoh, granted an exclusive interview to Channels Television, revealing that the autopsy conducted on September 11 established that the former Ondo State governorship candidate was indeed murdered. The Police Chief stated that the findings formed part of the broader investigation.

Shortly after the individuals were freed, Starnews reports that a video was circulated on social media showing the freed individuals celebrating at a location that looks like the deceased house. In the footage, a person believed to be one of Akingboye’s children can be heard making a controversial statement: “WAR READY TTG,” which drew public attention online.

Those released were among fourteen people initially invited by detectives at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, for questioning. Seven were later held for further interrogation based on the autopsy report and other leads being examined by investigators.

One of the issues under review, according to police sources, includes a transfer of ₦50 million from the late Akingboye’s account, which investigators are seeking clarity on. No conclusion has been reached on the matter.

Otunba Akingboye died under uncertain circumstances on September 3, 2025, with his body reportedly discovered in the backyard of his mansion. His first son, Samuel Akingboye, had alerted the police and called for a comprehensive investigation.
