Danish FA names three Nigerian players in U20, U21 Squads

The Danish Football Association has released its squad lists for this summer’s U20 and U21 international fixtures, with three players of Nigerian heritage making the cut.

Manchester United striker Chido Obi has been included in Denmark’s U20 squad for the prestigious Maurice Revello Tournament in France. The Danes are set to compete in Group B against Mexico, Congo, and Japan.

This selection marks Obi’s debut at the U20 level and makes him ineligible for the 2025 UEFA European U19 Championship. A former Arsenal academy player, Obi has been in fine form across Denmark’s youth ranks, scoring 18 goals in 32 matches at U16, U17, U18, and U21 levels.

He is expected to join the national side after Manchester United wraps up its post-season tour, which includes fixtures against the ASEAN All-Stars and a team from Hong Kong.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United’s William Osula and Sturm Graz’s Tochi Chukwuani have both been named in Denmark’s U21 squad by head coach Steffen Hojer. The team is preparing for the UEFA European U21 Championship to be hosted in Slovakia, where they will face Finland, Ukraine, and the Netherlands in the group stage.

Despite being provisionally tied to Denmark through their youth appearances, all three players remain eligible to represent Nigeria at senior level, pending an official switch through FIFA.
