Customs Seize Over $1 Million Hidden in Date Packs at Kano Airport

Officials of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have seized more than $1.1 million and 135,900 Saudi Riyals at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport.

The money was concealed inside packs of palm dates and was discovered during a routine luggage check.

A passenger who arrived from Saudi Arabia on a Saudi Airline flight was found with the undeclared cash. Authorities took legal action, leading to a court conviction.

As a result, the foreign currency was confiscated and handed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for further investigation.

Customs officials warned travelers to follow financial regulations by declaring large sums of cash when entering or leaving Nigeria.

They stated that failing to do so could lead to serious legal consequences.

The service also reaffirmed its commitment to stopping smuggling and illegal financial activities.
