Customs Officer Under Investigation for Allegedly Extorting N500,000 from Car Buyer

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Federal Operations Unit, Zone ‘B’ Kaduna, under the leadership of Comptroller Dalha Wada-Chedi, has taken action against an officer accused of extorting N500,000 from a car buyer, Muhammad Ahmad. The incident, which allegedly took place along Mokwa-Jebba Road in Niger, resulted in the officer being handed over to the Customs Police Unit on Monday for further investigation.

Addressing journalists at the unit’s premises, Comptroller Wada-Chedi confirmed that the implicated officer was a member of the Mokwa Patrol Team deployed by the unit. The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of last Thursday, prompting swift action upon receipt of the complaint.

Comptroller Wada-Chedi expressed the Customs management’s disapproval of such misconduct, emphasizing that the disciplinary committee would handle the matter diligently. The officer was transferred to the APM Customs Police Unit in Kaduna for thorough investigation, with assurances of a transparent and fair process.

He assured the public that the investigation would be expedited to ensure justice, reaffirming the NCS’s commitment to upholding professionalism and integrity within its ranks.
