The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, has confirmed that the service extensions granted to several senior officers in the agency followed proper procedures and were approved by President Bola Tinubu.
The tenure extensions, which are set to last for a year, have raised concerns within the agency, with some employees worried about the potential hindrance to career progression.
Adeniyi, speaking during a visit to the Kwara State Customs command in Ilorin, emphasized that the decision adhered to due process and was based on performance assessments.
He added that the agency is fully prepared to address any questions regarding the extensions when he appears before the National Assembly on February 18, 2025, following a petition from the Obasi-Pherson Help Foundation.
Adeniyi reiterated that the NCS operates according to the rule of law and has the necessary documentation to back all decisions made.
Among the officers who received the extension is the Controller of Customs for Kwara State, Faith Ojeifo, who was praised for her commendable performance during her tenure. Adeniyi assured that the extension was properly processed and authorized by the President.
