Cross River APC Chairman Eba Sacked Amid Internal Crisis

The Cross River State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has removed its Chairman, Alphonsus Ogar Eba, following an overwhelming vote of no confidence passed by 30 out of 32 members of the State Executive Committee (SEC).

The decision, which marks one of the most significant leadership shake-ups in the party’s recent history, came after months of internal wrangling, petitions, and allegations of financial mismanagement and high-handed leadership. The prolonged shutdown of the party secretariat also fuelled growing discontent among stakeholders.

According to reports, the SEC resolved to sack Eba after extensive consultations and a series of petitions addressed to the APC National Secretariat. The members said his removal was necessary to halt what they described as a “deepening crisis” within the Cross River chapter.
With Eba’s ouster, the SEC announced the Deputy Chairman, Ntufam Ekum Ekok Ojogu, as the Acting Chairman pending formal ratification by the party’s national leadership.

During his brief inauguration ceremony, Ojogu pledged to reopen all party structures, reconcile aggrieved factions, and restore transparency in the administration of the state chapter.
“All grievances must be set aside so we can rebuild. All entitlements owed will be addressed. My doors and phone lines are open 24/7. It is time to sheath our swords,” he said.
Ojogu also commended ward leaders, polling unit coordinators, and grassroots volunteers for sustaining party activities despite the leadership crisis.

Following his swearing-in, SEC members and chapter chairmen moved into a closed-door meeting to draw up restructuring plans and prepare a formal report for transmission to the APC National Secretariat.
