A fresh crisis has rocked the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ondo State following conflicting claims over the inauguration of the Okitipupa Local Government Executive Committee.
The controversy arose after a press release announced the inauguration of Okitipupa Local Government executives of the party at the Royal Bay Event Center, Okitipupa, listing newly inaugurated officers and prominent leaders said to have witnessed the event.
However, the ADC Chairman in Ondo State, Mr Wole Ademoyegun, has faulted the claim, describing the report of the inauguration as misleading and a distortion of facts.
In a rejoinder dated December 14, 2025, Ademoyegun stated that he personally travelled to Okitipupa to facilitate peace between two factions within the party, but his effort was frustrated by the leader of one faction who rejected the proposed harmonisation.
According to him, he was uncomfortable with the decision to proceed with the inauguration without first achieving peaceful harmonisation among the factions.
He explained that when the State Working Committee insisted on going ahead with the inauguration, he attempted to meet one of the factional leaders to express his concerns, but the leader was unavailable for what he described as inevitable reasons.
Ademoyegun further stated that he attended a meeting at a venue provided by one faction, where he informed stakeholders that the inauguration had been put on hold to allow for further harmonisation.
“I did not attend or participate in any inauguration ceremony at Bay Royal Hotel, nor did I administer any oath of office,” he said.
The ADC chairman also dismissed images circulating online in connection with the purported inauguration, alleging that they were fabricated through ICT manipulation.
He emphasised that there is no legitimate Local Government Executive Committee currently in place in Okitipupa Local Government.
Ademoyegun urged party members and the general public to disregard the said posting, stressing that no amount of money could influence his commitment to the peaceful harmonisation policy he had embarked upon.
He reaffirmed his commitment to party unity and condemned what he described as desperate actions capable of deepening the crisis within the party.
Meanwhile, a press release signed by the ADC Publicity Secretary in Okitipupa Local Government, Adejayan Adeola, announced the inauguration of the local government executives.
The statement listed the inaugurated officers as Arobadi Sola (Chairman), Adesote Adedotun (Deputy Chairman), Alhaji Usman Lawal (Vice Chairman 1), Chief Alimi Sule (Vice Chairman 2), Fakuyi Olaiya (Secretary), Lema Joshua (Treasurer), Pst. Akinwunmi Adekunle (Financial Secretary), Akindehin Temidayo (Organising Secretary), Barr. Akindehin Gbenro (Legal Adviser), Adejayan Adeola (Publicity Secretary), Akingbulu Bosede (Women Leader), Olawole Tope (Youth Leader), Ojo Enisan (Chief Whip), and Itiolu Iyabo (Welfare Social Secretary).
The release added that prominent party leaders who witnessed the event included Chief Oyedele Ibini, Elder Amos Fadope, who also doubles as the State Treasurer, Hon. Adeolu Akinseye, who also doubles as the State Deputy Secretary, Chief Oluwatoyin, Prince S. T. Aderehinwo, Deacon Adeniji, Hon. Abu Iwamitigha, Hon. Sola Omojugba, Elder Fagbemigun, High Chief T. A. Ayeku, Chief Akinseloyin, Mr Balogun Ope, Elder Akinlo, also known as Gamalin, among others.
