A Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, has issued an interim injunction restraining the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Moshood Jimoh, and the Nigeria Police Force from arresting or declaring activist and Publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore wanted.
The order, granted on Tuesday, followed an ex-parte motion filed by Sowore’s legal team after reports surfaced that he was allegedly being targeted for arrest and had been labelled “wanted” by the police.
According to the court order, the police and all their agents, officers, or representatives are barred from “harassing, intimidating, threatening with arrest, arresting, or further declaring or portraying the applicant as a wanted person or fugitive” pending the determination of the substantive suit.
The ruling also directed a temporary halt to any actions arising from the earlier move by the Lagos Police Command to publicly declare Sowore wanted.
Speaking after the proceedings, Sowore noted that the decision affirms the protection of citizens’ rights under the law, describing the attempt to declare him wanted as unlawful and politically motivated.
He wrote after leaving the courtroom that the court had “restrained the incompetent CP of the Lagos Police Command from declaring him wanted.”
The matter has been adjourned for further hearing till 14/11/2025.
