By: Bayero Ade

Justice Maimuna Abubakar of Niger State High Court 6 has issued an arrest warrant for Omokayode Lawal, the Managing Director of Polaris Bank, and the Minna Branch Manager over alleged contempt of court.

The case, filed by the Niger State Internal Revenue Service through its counsel, Muhammad Ndayako, accuses the bank officials of tax evasion amounting to over N1 billion.

The arrest warrant was issued following the defendants’ failure to appear in court during proceedings held on Tuesday. Justice Abubakar described their absence as a disregard for the court summons.

In her ruling, she directed law enforcement officers to apprehend the defendants and ensure their presence in court.

The case has been adjourned to December 13, 2024, for the defendants’ arraignment.
