An Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has declared the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) local government congress held in May 2025 null and void, affirming instead the ward congress conducted earlier on March 15, 2025, which produced executives across the state’s 177 wards.
Delivering judgment on Friday, Justice Bamidele Omotosho faulted the process that led to the LG congress, stating that “no suit based on a charlatan claim must be acted upon by the court.” He said the decision was based on unchallenged affidavits and evidence before the court.
The court recognized the claimant as the duly elected chairman and delegate of Ward 1, Ado-Ekiti Local Government, in line with the PDP’s 2024 guidelines for conventions. Justice Omotosho also nullified the delegate list submitted by the defendants, declaring it invalid for violating provisions of the Electoral Act 2022, the PDP Constitution (as amended), and the 1999 Constitution.
A perpetual injunction was issued restraining the defendants and their agents from recognizing or using the disputed delegate list. The court also warned all parties to comply with its orders, refrain from acts of self-help, and avoid undermining judicial authority. Actions taken in defiance of previous restraining orders on the 177 ward congresses were described as contemptuous and set aside.
Reacting, PDP chieftain Funsho Ayeni hailed the ruling as a chance to reconcile internal party differences ahead of the June 20, 2026, governorship election.
“This verdict is an opportunity for unity. Party leaders must work together to strengthen the PDP and secure victory over the APC,” Ayeni said.
