In a recent development at the President Election Petitions Tribunal, the hearing of the petition filed by Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, has been adjourned to May 17, 2023.
This information was disclosed by Kenneth Okonkwo, the spokesperson for the party’s presidential campaign council, via his Twitter page.
The petition lodged by Peter Obi is directed against Bola Tinubu, the ‘president-elect’ from the All Progressives Congress (APC). The adjournment was granted in response to a request made by the parties involved in the petition.
Kenneth Okonkwo stated, “After a brief hearing of the matter, the court adjourned to Wednesday 17th of May, 2023, for continuation of hearing.” He also expressed hope for a positive outcome and requested the support and prayers of the public.
In a separate incident earlier on the same day, the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal dismissed the petition submitted by the Action People’s Party.
The party had challenged the declaration of Bola Tinubu as the winner of the February 25 presidential election and subsequent recognition as the ‘president-elect’.
During the proceedings, the party’s counsel, Obed Agu, requested to withdraw the petition, leading to the dismissal of the case by Justice Tsammani, the presiding judge of the Presidential Election Petition Court.
