The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has dismissed claims that it is introducing new N5,000 and N10,000 notes, calling the information false.
The rumor, which spread across social media and other platforms, led to confusion among Nigerians.
Some reports claimed that the new banknotes would be launched to improve cash management and reduce handling costs, with a supposed introduction date of May 1, 2025.
In response, the CBN issued a statement on its official X account, urging the public to ignore the misinformation.
It made it clear that the viral reports did not come from the apex bank and directed Nigerians to its official website, cbn.gov.ng, for accurate information.
This is not the first time false reports about currency changes have circulated, causing unnecessary panic.
The CBN reassured the public that any official updates regarding currency policies will come directly from its verified channels.
