Catholic Priest Abducted in Imo State

A Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. John Ubaechu, has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen in Ejemekwuru, Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State.

The Owerri Catholic Archdiocese confirmed the abduction in a statement signed by its Chancellor and Secretary, Rev. Fr. Patrick Mbarah. According to the statement, Fr. Ubaechu, who serves as the Parish Priest of Holy Family Catholic Church, Izombe, was abducted on Sunday, March 23, 2025, while traveling to attend the Priests’ Annual Retreat.

The incident occurred along the Ejemekwuru road, and the Archdiocese has called for fervent prayers for his safe return.

“We regret to announce the kidnapping of Rev. Fr. John Ubaechu, which took place on Sunday. He was taken along the Ejemekwuru road while on his way to the Priests’ Annual Retreat,” the statement read.

The Archdiocese urged Catholics and people of goodwill to pray for his swift and safe release, seeking the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of Priests.
