Cathedral Church of Christ’s ex-provost dies at 92

A former Provost of the Cathedral Church of Christ, Marina, Lagos, Very Rev. Samuel Akinsope Johnson, is dead.

 

The foremost Lagos clergyman died at 92 on Wednesday.

 

The family made this known in a statement made available to The PUNCH late Wednesday.

Johnson was the first Old Igbobian clergyman and a school prefect at the Igbobi college.

His son, Rt. Rev. Akinpelu Johnson is the Bishop of the Lagos Mainland Diocese of the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion. The statement from the family read,”With gratitude to God for a life well spent and total submission to the will of the Almighty, we announce the passing unto eternal glory of The Very Rev Samuel Hugh Akinsope Johnson O.I 1944 Std. No. 0945 Oluwole House.

“He was the 1st Old Igbobian Clergyman, and former Provost of the Cathedral Church of Christ, Marina, Lagos. He was a School Prefect who also played Football 1st XI while at Igbobi College.

“He died today, Wednesday, 20 July, 2022 at the age of 92 years.

“May his soul rest in perfect peace.”
