Former President Muhammadu Buhari has dismissed reports that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, revoked a property belonging to him in Abuja.
In a statement released by Garba Shehu, Buhari’s spokesperson, it was clarified that the property in question was allocated to the Muhammadu Buhari Foundation, a non-profit organization established by individuals close to the former president.
Shehu stated that Buhari does not own any personal property or land in Abuja, and the foundation’s land was lawfully acquired with the support of well-meaning Nigerians and associates.
He acknowledged that the process of securing the property faced challenges, including a high fee demanded by the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) for the certificate of occupancy, which was inconsistent with charges for similar organizations.
According to Shehu, the decision to revoke the property was not unexpected. He further reiterated that Buhari, even during his presidency, had no interest in acquiring additional properties in the capital city.
“Those spreading falsehoods online should verify their facts and avoid dragging the former president into baseless controversies,” Shehu remarked.
The Muhammadu Buhari Foundation remains focused on its mission, unaffected by the ongoing speculations.
