BRT Driver Sentenced to Death for Killing Oluwabamise Ayanwola

A Lagos High Court has sentenced Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) driver Andrew Ominikoron to death for the murder of 22-year-old Oluwabamise Ayanwola. The court, led by Justice Sherifat Sonaike, found Ominikoron guilty after he was charged with five offenses, including murder, conspiracy, and rape.

The case stemmed from the tragic events surrounding Ayanwola’s death, as well as the sexual assault of Dr. Anosike Victoria and the rape of Maryland Ojiezelu. In delivering the sentence, Justice Sonaike affirmed that the prosecution had proven the charges beyond reasonable doubt.

Despite the verdict, Ominikoron maintained his innocence and pleaded not guilty to the charges. He is now facing the death penalty, which will be carried out by hanging.
