BREAKING: WAFCON Champions, Super Falcons, Arrive Abuja to Heroic Welcome

Nigeria’s Super Falcons, newly crowned champions of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), have returned home to a rousing reception in Abuja following their historic 3-2 victory over Morocco in the final.

The team touched down at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Monday afternoon to a warm welcome from government officials, football supporters, and enthusiastic fans who gathered to celebrate the nation’s most successful women’s football team.

The Falcons’ arrival marks the beginning of a national celebration, with plans underway for a victory parade across key locations in the Federal Capital Territory. The parade, which will showcase the WAFCON trophy, is expected to begin later today and pass through major streets before culminating in a reception at the Presidential Villa.

The Nigerian women’s national team secured their 10th WAFCON title on Saturday night in Rabat, Morocco, after a thrilling comeback win against the host nation. Their triumph has been hailed across the country and the continent, reaffirming Nigeria’s dominance in women’s football.

Officials from the Federal Ministry of Sports, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), and other dignitaries were present at the airport to receive the champions. The players and coaching staff expressed gratitude for the support they received throughout the tournament and dedicated the victory to Nigerians at home and abroad.

President Bola Tinubu, who had earlier approved full allowances and bonuses for the team ahead of the final, is expected to host the players at the Presidential Villa as part of official recognition of their achievement.

More details on the victory parade and official engagements will be announced in due course.
