BREAKING: PDP Secretariat in Edo Stormed, Valuables Looted

By: Bayero Ade

The secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benin City, Edo State, was recently targeted by unidentified assailants.

According to Politics Nigeria, the attackers are said to have caused significant damage to the property and made off with valuable items.

This assault is believed to be linked to the fallout from the September 2024 Edo State governorship election, in which Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was declared the victor by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Okpebholo triumphed with 291,667 votes, defeating the PDP’s candidate, Asue Ighodalo, who secured 247,274 votes. Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party finished in third place with 22,763 votes.

The PDP has expressed its dissatisfaction with the results and has filed petitions to challenge the outcome.

The recent attack coincides with a similar incident that took place during a session at the Edo State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, overseen by Justice Wilfred Kpochi. During the tribunal proceedings, gunmen stormed the venue, causing fear among legal professionals, politicians, and observers present, with gunfire echoing the violence of Thursday’s assault.
