A deadly clash between Owake and Ebo communities in Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State has reportedly resulted in the death of one individual and left several others injured. The violence also led to the destruction of properties, including homes and community landmarkts.
According to The Hope, he conflict, which occurred on Sunday night, saw suspected assailants from Ebo allegedly attacking Oka-Odo. Among the destroyed properties was the home of Mr. Omorinbola Francis, also known as Ekoro, which was completely engulfed in flames despite efforts to contain the fire. Injured victims were taken to the newly established Federal Medical Centre in Iwaro-Oka for treatment.
A local source, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed that the Palace of the Asin of Oka-Odo and a nearby event hall were also targeted during the attack.
The source said, “On Sunday night, suspected hoodlums believed to be from Ebo invaded Oka-Odo Community. The palace and the event hall were destroyed, and several homes, including that of Mr. Omorinbola Francis, were set on fire. Unfortunately, efforts to put out the fire at his residence were unsuccessful.”
Earlier in the day, members of Owake Community had reportedly gone to mark boundaries on disputed land along Ikun Road, following a recent Appeal Court ruling that affirmed their ownership. The signposting exercise, carried out under the supervision of security forces, reportedly ended peacefully. However, as members of Owake Community were returning home, they were allegedly ambushed by thugs, resulting in several injuries.
The injured victims were later transported to the Federal Medical Centre in GRA for urgent medical attention.
