A staff of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owo, Pastor Ayodeji Akesinro, who was kidnapped two days ago, has regained his freedom.
Akesinro, who is also a pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God, was abducted on Thursday evening at his residence in Upenmen, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State. His abduction had sparked tension within the medical community and the church, with colleagues and family members calling for urgent intervention.
Confirming his release, a labour leader at FMC Owo said the circumstances surrounding how he was freed remain sketchy, but expressed relief that he was rescued alive. “We are glad to announce the safe release of our colleague, Pastor (MLS) Akesinro Ayodeji, who was abducted in Owo. We give glory to God Almighty and sincerely appreciate the security agencies, government authorities, colleagues, friends, and well-wishers whose prayers, efforts, and support made this possible,” the statement read.
Although it has not been confirmed whether ransom was paid, sources said security operatives played a significant role in the operation that led to his freedom. The incident once again highlights the growing threat of abductions across Ondo State and other parts of the country, where health workers and clergymen have increasingly become soft targets.
Meanwhile, colleagues of the medical laboratory scientist have expressed gratitude to God and security agencies for ensuring his safe return, even as they urged government to intensify efforts in tackling insecurity in the state.
