BREAKING: Court affirms Asue Ighodalo PDP guber candidate in Edo

The Abuja Division of the Federal High Court on Wednesday confirmed Asue Ighodalo as the legitimate governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State.

In suit CS/469/24, Justice James Omotosho ruled that Mr. Ighodalo was properly nominated during the PDP primaries held on February 22, 2024, in Benin City. He dismissed the objections raised by Mr. Ighodalo’s political opponent, Philip Shaibu.

Mr. Ighodalo received 577 votes, defeating Mr. Shaibu and 10 other contenders. It is not yet clear if Mr. Shaibu intends to appeal the court’s decision.

The prominent Lagos-based business lawyer is widely seen as the leading candidate in the gubernatorial election set for September 2024.
