Breaking: Barcelona Crowned La Liga Champions

By Charles Maduka

Barcelona have officially won the 2024–25 La Liga title, completing a remarkable domestic treble with a 2–0 victory over Espanyol on Sunday.

It was teenage sensation Lamine Yamal who stole the spotlight, scoring a stunning goal from outside the box that gave Barcelona the lead and secured the crucial points needed to clinch the title. Fermin Lopez sealed the win with a second goal in stoppage time, setting off celebrations among the players and fans.

This is the 28th time Barcelona have won the Spanish league, and they did it once again at the home of their city rivals—just like they did in the 2022–23 season. Despite Real Madrid’s last-minute win against Mallorca earlier in the week, Barcelona’s point lead remains uncatchable, with only two matches left in the season.

Under new manager Hansi Flick, Barcelona have enjoyed a historic campaign. They won all four El Clásico matches against Real Madrid this season—a first in the history of the rivalry—and lifted the Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup earlier in the year. Their treble triumph marks the first domestic treble in Spanish football since 1989.

Barcelona have been dominant, especially since the start of 2025. In their last 17 league matches, they’ve recorded 15 wins and two draws without a single defeat. Offensively, they’ve been unstoppable, scoring 97 league goals so far—the most by any team in Europe’s top five leagues this season. Their total tally of 168 goals across all competitions places them among the most prolific teams in the club’s history.

With this achievement, Barcelona have not only reclaimed the La Liga title from Real Madrid but have also sent a clear message: they are back at the top of Spanish football. The 2024–25 La Liga trophy will be decorated in the club’s famous Blaugrana colors.
