The Benue State House of Assembly has passed a vote of confidence in Governor Hyacinth Alia and the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Terver Zamber, said the decision was reached during plenary, following a motion moved by Hon. Douglas Akya, representing Makurdi South Constituency.
According to Zamber, the lawmaker noted that Governor Alia has consistently demonstrated respect for the rule of law and acted swiftly in line with the resolutions of the House, reflecting a spirit of collaboration between the executive and legislature.
He added that the Governor has shown “uncommon commitment” to the welfare of Benue citizens by addressing issues and demands presented by the Assembly.
The House also commended Speaker Dajoh for what it described as exceptional leadership, which has ensured the smooth running of the 10th Assembly.
Lawmakers further condemned what they called attempts by “non-state actors” to destabilize the legislature by instigating impeachment moves against the Speaker without just cause.
“The House passed a Vote of Confidence on the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, affirming their unwavering support for his leadership and rejecting in totality any attempts by non-state actors to interfere with the internal workings of the Assembly,” the statement read in part.
