Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has called on corps members deployed to the state to approach their national assignment with seriousness and a deep sense of patriotism.
Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2025 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 corps members held on Friday at the newly renovated NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Wailo, Ganjuwa Local Government Area, the governor urged the corps members to uphold the values of national unity, discipline, and selfless service promoted by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.
Governor Bala, who was represented by the Head of Civil Service, Barr. Mohammed Umar, emphasized that the state government and people of Bauchi are committed to creating a conducive environment for corps members to thrive. He pledged continued support for the NYSC’s mission of youth empowerment and national development.
“Therefore, we have decided to collaborate with you in every possible way to ensure the success of the scheme in the state,” he said.
Highlighting the government’s recent interventions, Governor Bala disclosed the completion of the renovation of corps members’ hostels and the construction of a brand-new multipurpose hall in the camp. He added that the second phase of the project—which includes a clinic, staff accommodation, and other essential infrastructure—would commence soon.
“I can assure you that my government will continue to do everything within our means to ensure your comfort and safety throughout your stay in Bauchi State,” he affirmed.
Earlier in his remarks, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr. Umoren Kufre, revealed that 1,107 corps members—comprising 608 males and 499 females—were successfully registered for the orientation course, out of the 1,700 deployed to the state.
He reminded the participants that camp life is regimented, with strict adherence to rules and the NYSC bye-laws being mandatory. Kufre expressed gratitude to Governor Bala for his “unwavering commitment” to the success of the scheme in the state.
“There can be no better demonstration of commitment, love and fatherly care than what we are seeing in the camp now,” he said, commending the governor for the renovation works and infrastructure upgrades at the camp.
Some corps members who spoke to journalists expressed satisfaction with the facilities and warm reception at the orientation camp, saying the experience had exceeded their expectations.
The orientation exercise is expected to continue with leadership training, paramilitary drills, skills acquisition sessions, and community development initiatives—all geared toward preparing corps members for their one-year national service.
