Bayelsa State has regained electricity after enduring a four-month blackout caused by the destruction of critical infrastructure.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) in Port Harcourt announced the restoration, marking the end of a challenging period for residents.
The power outage, which began on July 29, resulted from vandalism targeting 20 transmission towers along the Ahoada-Yenagoa 132KV power line — the sole transmission link supplying Bayelsa. Repairs were completed by November 30.
The restoration process was both costly and labor-intensive, with each transmission tower requiring an estimated N13 million for reconstruction. Security efforts in the region also led to the arrest of ten individuals suspected of damaging TCN facilities.
Four have been convicted, while six remain in custody.
Despite the setback, TCN has pledged to maintain consistent electricity delivery to Distribution Companies (DisCos) to ensure steady power supply across affected areas.
