Bauchi Orders Immediate Closure of All Schools Over Fears of Terrorist Abductions

The Bauchi State Government has ordered the immediate shutdown of all schools across the state following rising fears of possible abductions by terrorist groups.

The directive, issued on Sunday, affects all primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions, including Federal Government colleges and privately owned schools.
The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the Ministry of Education’s Information and Public Relations Officer, Jalaludeen Usman.

According to Usman, the decision was reached after extensive consultations and in response to mounting security threats targeting students, teachers, and school communities.
“This decision, though difficult, was taken after extensive consultations and in response to overwhelming security concerns,” the statement read.

“The government is fully aware of the inconvenience this may cause. However, the protection of our children remains our highest moral responsibility. Every student in Bauchi State deserves to learn in an environment that is safe, stable, and free of fear.”

He called on parents, guardians, school proprietors, and stakeholders to remain calm and cooperate with authorities as efforts are underway to address the security situation.
Usman added that the government is working closely with security agencies to ensure that normal academic activities resume as soon as it is deemed safe.

“We therefore call on parents, guardians, school proprietors, and all concerned stakeholders not to panic but to remain calm and cooperative. The government is working closely with security agencies to address the concerns swiftly and comprehensively,” he said.

He also urged residents to assist security agencies by reporting suspicious movements.
“If you see something, say something. Timely information from the public is crucial in safeguarding our communities.”

The statewide closure follows recent high-profile abductions of students in Kebbi and Niger States, which have heightened anxiety across northern Nigeria and amplified fears of similar attacks in Bauchi.
