Bandits struck on Friday along the Egbe-Okoloke Road in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, abducting a man identified as Lanlege.
SaharaReporters learned from local sources that the victim was intercepted during his daily commute and forcibly taken away by the assailants. The attack, which occurred in broad daylight, has intensified fears among residents and road users in the area.
This incident has contributed to growing concerns over insecurity along major routes in Yagba West, as commuters and residents increasingly express anxiety about their safety while travelling. Community members are now calling for intensified patrols and urgent security interventions to prevent further attacks and ensure the safe return of the abducted victim.
Residents have advised motorists to exercise caution while using the Egbe-Okoloke Road until security measures are improved.
In related news, SaharaReporters previously reported that personnel from the Nigeria Police Force dispersed youths from the Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State with tear gas during a protest against worsening insecurity and the abandonment of several communities in the area. The peaceful demonstration, primarily comprised of youths from Bunuland, saw participants blocking a major road while chanting solidarity songs and displaying placards to highlight the escalating violence and displacement of residents.
A video posted online by KogiXcommunity captured demonstrators singing while holding signs with bold inscriptions such as “Bunuland Bleeds” and “Why Should We Ask for Permission to Live?” One of the protesters lamented the complete desertion of dozens of communities due to ongoing attacks and killings, stating, “We have 44 communities in Bunuland. Those communities have been deserted.”
He further added that fear and insecurity had forced residents to flee their ancestral homes, noting, “There is nobody left in those communities. People have abandoned their homes. The police are here now, and they have been shooting tear gas at us.”
Despite the police’s use of tear gas, the protesters remained steadfast, insisting on their demand for urgent action from the government and security agencies. “But we are resolute. We are not leaving here. We are resolute,” the protester declared.
Unfortunately, the protest was ultimately disrupted when police fired multiple rounds of tear gas, forcing demonstrators to disperse and clearing the road.
Residents of Kabba-Bunu and surrounding areas have repeatedly raised alarms over rampant insecurity, including killings, kidnappings, and the occupation of farmlands, accusing authorities of failing to protect lives and property. Recently, SaharaReporters reported that several individuals had been abducted along the Omi-Odo Ara Road in Yagba West Local Government Area, with local sources confirming the incident occurred on December 30, 2025. However, the exact number of victims and their identities remain unverified.
